Students, faculty celebrate academic excellence with showcase

Campus gates of St. Catherine University

Students, faculty and staff at St. Kate’s kicked off the month of May with a weeklong celebration of scholarship. The annual St. Catherine Showcase of Academic Excellence highlighted the accomplishments of the entire campus community through daily symposia, presentations, and awards ceremonies. This showcase offered a glimpse of the dedication and efforts our students and faculty invest in the pursuit of academic excellence throughout the entire year.

"This week has been a great reminder of the reason we are here, and our mission to educate women to lead and influence," said Anita Thomas, PhD, executive vice president and Provost, St. Catherine University..

On Friday, April 29, 60 undergraduate student projects were presented through posters and artistic displays at the Sister Seraphim Gibbons Undergraduate Symposium. Sister Seraphim Gibbons, CSJ ’33 educated women to lead and influence long before it became St. Catherine University’s articulated mission. This annual Symposium celebrates her impact on St. Kate’s and honors her pioneering spirit and love of discovery. The Graduate Student Scholarship Showcase, Antonian Honors Senior Projects, Phi Beta Kappa Initiation Ceremony, and the Celebration of Faculty and Staff Scholarship rounded out the showcase kickoff on April 29.

Across the week there was incredible activity.

The Honors and Awards Ceremony highlighted our incredible students and their involvement on and beyond campus.

Over 3 days, Community Work and Learning Spring Symposia allowed 66 students from Assistantship Mentoring Program (AMP), Community Leaders and America Reads to present their work. Each students’ experience is featured on the Spring symposium site.

St. Kate’s Empty Bowls celebrated more than 10 years of collaboration with Open Arms of Minnesota and our St. Kate’s Community. Check out their website for history and stories of St. Kate’s Empty Bowls.
