Academic Coursework
Seize the opportunity to study music within a rich liberal arts environment that develops your creativity and leadership skills! St. Kate’s small class size allows you more direct attention than you'd receive at larger colleges or universities.
The class Women and Music examines the role of women in popular and classical music and the cultural values that influence women’s participation in musical traditions locally and globally. Learn about the music created in countries such as Trinidad, India, and South Africa—and hip hop and American Indian music in the United States—in the World Music course. Or, fulfill a fine arts requirement with Music in the Twin Cities, an experiential course that will expose you to fieldwork and concerts in a range of musical styles around the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro.
Performance Opportunities
Have a passion for performing? Check out The Women's Choir or the St. Catherine Choral Society.
St. Catherine Choral Society
The St. Catherine Choral Society is a large mixed chorus, which combines St. Catherine University students, faculty, staff and experienced singers from across the metro area in performances of symphonic choral works. Performances are accompanied by professional orchestras and soloists.
The Women's Choir
Fall auditions are held concurrently with those for the Choral Society in the days immediately preceding the start of classes. First-year students audition during Orientation. For your audition, prepare to sing one song with accompaniment and several vocalises to explore your range and ability. Please bring the music, if possible.
