The accreditation of St. Kate's Institute of Simulation and Interprofessional Learning (I-SAIL) is the culmination of two years of devoted work by faculty and staff members in the School of Nursing and School of Health Sciences.
The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) has awarded full simulation accreditation to St. Catherine University’s Institute of Simulation and Interprofessional Learning (I-SAIL). This achievement is the culmination of two years of extensive preparation by faculty and staff members in the School of Nursing and School of Health Sciences.
A core part of St. Kate’s healthcare curriculum, I-SAIL provides state-of-the-art simulation training and interprofessional experiences for all nursing and health sciences students. In simulation programming, students practice working with cutting-edge technology and equipment they will use in their careers, build skills working with other healthcare disciplines, and receive real-time feedback from faculty monitoring simulations.
“This accreditation by SSH, the world’s largest healthcare simulation organization, recognizes the quality and consistency of the I-SAIL’s preparation of future healthcare professionals,” said Denise Baird, PhD, provost and senior vice president of St. Catherine University. “Our dedicated faculty and staff have worked tirelessly to create this simulation infrastructure that ensures students develop the confidence and caregiver competence needed to provide outstanding, compassionate care to patients and improve the health of entire communities.”

St. Kate’s I-SAIL was further recognized during the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare in San Antonio, Texas. In addition to being honored as a newly SSH-accredited program, I-SAIL director Stephanie de Sam Lazaro ’05, MAOT’06, OTD’14, Kathryn Molitor MSN’10, DNP’24, Lauren Guengerich, and Krista Anderson, DNP’24, each delivered presentations, and simulation operations specialist Wyatt Hodge was selected to serve as a judge at the Simventors competition.
“Celebrating our accomplishment at the international simulation conference and participating in the programming was a reminder of the larger impact of our work in I-SAIL, particularly in the area of interprofessional simulation,” said de Sam Lazaro. “At the same time as we are educating future healthcare professionals across disciplines, we are contributing to and learning from the wider knowledge base of simulation in healthcare.”
