Democracy Talks 3: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Contemporary Public Discourse
Join the Mission Chairs and an array of faculty speakers on Monday, April 20 from 12:00-1:00pm in the President’s Dining Room (or Zoom) for the third installment of the Democracy Talks series. This event will be an interdisciplinary conversation on public discourse, information, and democracy. We will be focusing on how different disciplines approach questions related to media regulation, public discourse, misinformation, disinformation, gaslighting, “alternative truths,” mutually respectful debate, and how to cultivate an informed and engaged citizenry. We hope to better understand these issues, their importance, and their potential solutions by articulating how different disciplinary perspectives illuminate different aspects of the issues.
Food will be provided and in-person attendees will have a chance to win tickets to The Moth Story SLAM, “Disasterpiece” at The Parkway Theatre on April 29.
Speakers will include:
- Aisha A. Upton Azzam - Sociology
- Tony Molaro - Library and Information Science
- Katrina Kish - Philosophy
- Ashley McFarlane - Economics and Political Science
- Margret McCue-Enser- Communication Studies
- Tomeka Jacobs - Theology
- Leah Wells - Public Health
