As part of a generous gift to establish an endowed gift fund from the 3M Foundation, these grants support students in developing laboratory and leadership skills for graduate school and professional careers, while helping faculty advance their research or pilot new projects.
Student-Faculty Collaborative Grants provide opportunities for hands-on, collaborative research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). While our core focus remains firmly rooted in STEM research, eligibility is determined by the scientific scope of the proposed project, regardless of the faculty member’s home department. We welcome proposals that offer engaging, impactful STEM research experiences to students eager to develop their technical and analytical skills.
Funding: Standard base awards are available for up to $5,000, which includes a $2,000 student stipend, a $1,000 faculty mentor stipend, and $2,000 for supplies and research expenses. To support expanded student participation, faculty may request up to $2,000 per additional student researcher for up to three students total per project. Requests for additional student funding require a project rationale detailing student roles and responsibilities and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Supplemental funds of up to $100 may also be available to cover poster preparation and presentation materials for The Sr. Seraphim Gibbons Undergraduate Symposium.
Eligibility: All St. Catherine University faculty members are eligible to apply, provided the proposed project aligns with a STEM scientific scope. Priority will be given to ranked faculty who have not received a 3M STEM grant within the past two years.
