Kaitlyn Alvarez '18 is the third Wildcat in program history to win a tournament as an individual and the first to do so this season.
It was the season ending and the St. Catherine University Golf team hoped for. The Wildcats finished fourth at the Carleton Invite thanks to a career performance from Kaitlyn Alvarez (Eau Claire, Wis. / North), who finished tied for second in a tournament that featured five other teams from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). For her performance, Alvarez has been named Wildcat Athlete of the Week.
Alvarez opened the Carleton Invite at Bellwood Oaks Golf Club in Hastings, Minnesota with her lowest score of the spring season. She shot a 76 on the first day of the tournament to sit atop the leaderboard at +2.
Alvarez followed up day one with an 82 on the second day to finish the tournament with an overall score of 158. Her score of +12 was good for a four way tie at second place, and Alvarez took third at the tournament as an individual after the tiebreakers. It was the highest individual finish of Alvarez’ career and her second lowest score of the 2015-16 season.
Thanks to Alvarez’ strong performance, St. Kate’s finished the two-day tournament in fourth place with a team score of 658. The Wildcats finished fourteen strokes behind tournament victor, and host, Carleton College who shot 644.
