The St. Catherine soccer team made history on the last weekend of October, securing the program's first-ever Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) regular-season title with a 3-0 defeat of St. Olaf College at St. Kate's Field. To go along with the win, the Wildcats earned the No. 1 seed in the MIAC Playoffs which includes a first-round bye.
"This team is led by an amazing group of seniors who understand what it means to compete with unity, courage, and joy," said head coach Jesse Campos. "Since pre-season we have talked about ensuring the training environment is focused, competitive, and purposeful so that we could go out and thrive on game day in front of our families, friends, and fans."
Junior Amanda Elton ’23 scored her 12th goal of the season in the 21st minute assisted by senior Lauren Witte ’22. With just a minute remaining in the first half, rookie Sydney Nelson ’22 netted the fourth goal of her debut season as Witte collected her second assist of the game. The final goal was scored in the 54th minute by senior Rachael Holm ’22 off a pass from Mallory Johnson ’24, securing the 3-0 victory. Sophomore Kate Praetz ’24 played the complete game on Saturday, collecting her seventh shutout of the season ranking her first in the conference this season.
The Wildcats win also earned Campos a personal milestone, as he is now the program's all-time win's leader at 48, passing former head coach Chris Citowicki.
