Master of Library and Information Science student Yharnet Browne says about the project: "I’m currently volunteering on the George Floyd Memorial project as part of Advanced Archival Management. The offerings (signs, letters, flowers and other ephemera) were left around the site of George Floyd’s death since Memorial Day. I help clean offerings, assess the condition of items, rehouse them into appropriate storage, and create an inventory of the collection. One of the future plans is to exhibit them in a gallery within the neighborhood for anyone who wishes to see the impact Floyd’s death had on the world. What’s cool about this project is applying the skill set of an archivist as a form of activism and social justice. Assisting in this project is groundbreaking and historical in itself. I’m humbled and grateful to be a part of it."
Current MLIS student Yharnet Browne is working on an archiving project related to the George Floyd Memorial in Minneapolis.
