
Bear Care Clinic is a free, school-based health clinic with a mission to provide accessible healthcare to uninsured and underinsured children and families in the White Bear Lake area. It also provides a place for St. Kate’s nursing students to complete their rotations. Their services are located directly in schools, decreasing health access barriers for students.
On Wednesday, Oct. 5, the Bear Care Clinic sponsored a mobile vaccine clinic at the White Bear Lake Area Learning Center for students who are underinsured or have health care access challenges. Students were able to take advantage of the mobile clinic’s free services, conveniently located in their high school.
Jessica Miehe, assistant professor and program director, Nursing, and director of the Bear Care Clinic, along with her nursing students, were on site to administer vaccines to students.
Founded by faculty members at St. Catherine University School of Nursing, the Bear Care Clinic is a free, school-based health clinic with a mission to provide accessible healthcare to uninsured and underinsured children and families in the White Bear Lake area. Bear Care has served over 1,000 White Bear Lake Area Pre-K through 12th grade students, providing services such as flu shots, treatment for acute illness, and health assessments. They will also introduce mental health services in the Fall of 2022. The clinic is sponsored by St. Catherine University.
Thanks to the efforts of St. Kate’s nursing faculty and students, the clinic will continue to provide much needed care for students in need while providing a place for nursing students to gain valuable hands-on experiences.
