Athletics Hall of Fame inductees Deidre Lindstrom King '05, Shannon Meyer '88 and Michaela Michaelson '12 will be honored during Wildcat Weekend.
The St. Catherine University athletics department has announced the inductees of the Hall of Fame Class of 2016.
Three former Wildcat student-athletes will be inducted into the St. Kate's Athletic Hall of Fame during a ceremony on October 22 as part of the inaugural Wildcat Weekend, a campus-wide celebration of St. Kate’s sports.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will also include a banner raising to honor all conference champion and NCAA tournament qualifying teams. Wildcat Weekend continues with a tailgate party before the 1 p.m. soccer game against Gustavus, where the Hall of Fame inductees will be recognized at halftime. All alumnae are invited to attend, and activities are free. Online registration at stkate.edu/wcweekend is requested.

Deidre Lindstrom King '05, DPT'07
Deidre Lindstrom King graduated from St. Kate’s in 2005 after a storied career with the Wildcat tennis program. She found success on the court in both doubles and singles play, setting school records and earning multiple awards and honors in the process. As a junior in 2004, King earned Third Team All-America honors and led St. Kate's to its first team appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats reached the Sweet 16 that season, while King earned the Jeanne Arth award for her performance on and off the court.
As a senior in 2005, King was named All-MIAC for her singles play. She holds school records for career singles wins with 68, and is third all-time in career doubles wins with 60. Her career match record of 128-54 is the best in school history. King is just one of three Wildcat tennis players to win 60 or more career matches in both singles and doubles play.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2005, King returned to St. Kate’s for graduate school, completing the doctoral program in physical therapy in 2007. She works as a physical therapist at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.
Shannon Meyer '88
Shannon Meyer was a four-year member of the St. Kate's track and field team from 1984-88. During her career, Meyer dominated in the throws events, specifically discus, making three consecutive trips to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship from 1985-1987. Twice, she earned All-America honors. Meyer finished seventh in discus at the 1985 NCAA Championship to earn her first All-America citation. However, her best performance came at the very end of her collegiate career, when she was the national runner-up in discus at the 1987 NCAA Championship to earn her second All-America citation and set the school record with a throw of 43.82 meters. That mark now stands second all-time in St. Kate's history.
Meyer graduated from St. Kate’s with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1988. She went on to earn a master’s degree in exercise science at Colorado State University and a Doctor of Podiatry from Des Moines Medical University. Along with husband David Larsen, also a podiatrist, she runs a private practice in Wisconsin.
Michaela Michaelson '12
Michaela Michaelson completed her four-year career with the St. Kate’s hockey team in 2011. A forward, Michaelson set multiple school records and helped the Wildcats qualify for the MIAC playoffs for the first time in program history during the 2009-10 season. As a junior that year, she was named the MIAC Women's Hockey Player of the Year and a First Team All-American. She was also a finalist for the Laura Hurd National Player of the Year award after leading both the team and the conference in several statistical categories.
In her senior season, Michaelson followed up by earning her second MIAC Women's Hockey Player of the Year and First Team All-America honors in 2010-11. She was a two-time All-USCHO (U.S. College Hockey Online) first team honoree, a two-time Wildcat Athlete of the Year, a four-year letter winner, and a four-time All-MIAC honoree. Michaelson holds the school record in game-winning goals (14) and ranks third in career points (112), career goals (61), and career assists (51).
Michaelson completed her bachelor’s degree in business administration at St. Kate’s in 2012. She is employed as a work director at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. She continues to skate, competing in the Red Bull Crashed Ice series. Michaelson finished the 2015-16 season ranked fourth in the U.S. and ninth in the world.
