This learning activity will include pre-session education materials and a brief synchronous
discussion of best practices in health literacy and patient education including tools and
techniques, including positives and cautions in the use of AI for this work, to ensure best
practices are met. Within small teams, students will create interprofessional patient education
materials for a given situation and deliver that education to a simulated patient. A large group
debrief will be part of this learning activity. Students will have the opportunity to obtain a Patient
Education Scholar Team Experience Badge upon completion of this activity.
This is a team experience learning activity with the following learning outcomes:
1. Articulate principles of best practices in patient education including addressing health
literacy needs of client populations.
2. Identify tools and techniques to assist in the development, evaluation, and
implementation of patient education with clients.
3. Collaborate with an interprofessional team to create and deliver patient education.
