Join St Kate's Civic Engagement team in a conversation with Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt '99: the first woman and person of color to hold this office. In her first two years, she has created a new Auto Theft Unit to combat historic high numbers, reinstated the DARE program to build relationships with the community at a young age, prioritized providing Narcan trainings and free Narcan to fight the growing opioid crisis, launched a jail data dashboard for transparency inside the Adult Detention Center, and she continues to advocate for law enforcement with county officials. Students are anticipating a nuanced dialogue about the role of law enforcement in society and navigating social justice in systems with historically poor relationships with police.
We encourage you to join us in the Presidents Dining Room or on Zoom.
