Join us for discussion and reflection as we read Sarah Augustine's book The Land is Not Empty: Following Jesus in Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery. Maria Tice will be leading a group to read and discuss the book written by social activist, Christian woman, and Pueblo tribe member, Sarah Augustine. Using clear and compelling language, Augustine reframes the colonization of North America as she exposes ways that a 500-year-old Roman Catholic Church document, the Doctrine of Discovery, continues to influence exploitation of natural resources and indigenous people to this day.
We will gather on October 14, October 28, and November 11 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm (Library 128).
