ASL and Interpreting

Welcome to the Department of ASL and Interpreting.

At St. Kate’s, our mission is to teach excellence in ASL and interpreting so students may uphold the dignity of every person and promote solidarity of community.

We care for each other and ourselves so that we can do our best to serve the community, seek justice through ethical decision-making, develop excellent language and cultural competence, and do deep critical reflection about self and the systems that surround us.

We proudly hold full accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education, distinguishing us as Minnesota's sole accredited interpreting program and one of only 15 nationwide accredited bachelor's programs.

The Department of ASL and Interpreting is deeply devoted to critical service learning and nurturing vibrant collaborations with various deaf communities - and enriches its educational provision and societal contribution through these efforts.

Our department is integral to a scholarly partnership with St. Catherine University's CATIE Center, with a primary emphasis on advancing the practice of ASL-English Healthcare Interpreters, an initiative guided by the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers (NCIEC).
