Shimelis Assefa PhD

Dr. Shimelis Assefa is Professor and Program Director in the MLIS program at St. Catherine University. Before joining St. Kate’s, he was Associate Professor in the Department of Research Methods and Information Science at the University of Denver. His teaching spans information science, data visualization, database management, web content management, and library and information technologies, among other areas. His research explores the diffusion of scientific knowledge, innovation systems, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, reproducibility methods in healthcare, and data for development, particularly in the context of Africa. His work has been published in leading outlets including the Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, Communications in Computer and Information Science, Annual Review of Cultural Heritage Informatics, Digital Health, and Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence, among others.
