Dr. Nancy A. Heitzeg is Professor and Chair of Sociology , Critical Studies of Race/Ethnicity, Gender and Women's Studies. She is formerly Endowed Chair in the Sciences, and is currently PI of the Mellon Grant, Race and Racialization in the United States: Democratizing the Humanities. Professor Heitzeg writes and presents widely on issues of race, class, gender, and social control with attention to the school to prison pipeline and the prison industrial complex. Professor Heitzeg is the author of multiple articles and two recent books, The School-to-Prison Pipeline: Education, Discipline, and Racialized Double Standards (Praeger, 2016) and Carceral Con: The Deceptive Terrain of Criminal Justice Reform (with Kay Whitlock, University of California Press, 2021).
