  • Ways to Be Involved

Every year, there are many ways for students to be involved in the spiritual and religious life of St. Kate’s. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact us at spiritandjustice@stkate.edu or 651.690.6724.

    Liturgical or Sunday Mass Ministry
All are welcome to attend and participate in the Catholic services we offer each Sunday and throughout the week. If you would like to play a larger role in these events, we welcome volunteers who are willing to share their talents. We are always looking for lectors to share the word, greeters to provide hospitality, and Eucharistic Ministers to distribute communion. Training is always available for those who are interested.

    Music Ministry
Share your musical gifts by becoming a cantor, chapel singer, or instrumentalist. This group meets every Sunday morning for rehearsal prior to 10:30 a.m. Sunday mass. Help make ceremonies even more special as a celebration singer. This group prepares for special celebrations that occur periodically throughout the year. Contact Bex Gaunt to sign-up.

  • Programs and Events

The Center for Spirituality and Social Justice (CSSJ) employs full time staff and student peer ministers who work hard to provide enlightening and uplifting programming for students. We partner with other Catholic universities to offer larger retreat experiences, and offer individual spiritual direction.

Students interested in being part of a faith sharing group can join our Sharing of the Heart groups, based on the practices of our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Other CSSJ events include our welcome bonfire, the wall of oppression, Food for the Soul, and service opportunities.

    Travel with CSSJ

The CSSJ also has a long tradition of providing alternative spring breaks and other travel experiences for students. In 2019, students went on a pilgrimage to Le Puy, France, the city where the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet were founded. In the past, we have taken students to Denver, Kansas City, Selma, Georgia, El Salvador, Rome, and Peru. These trips offer students a unique opportunity to witness social injustices through a lens of faith. Join us to learn about other cultures, the root causes of various social justice issues, and about how trip experiences and themes have an impact on our lives at St. Kate's.

Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

If you would like to explore receiving the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and/or First Eucharist, St. Catherine University RCIA is here to welcome you into the Catholic faith community. This program is also for students who are already baptized in another Christian denomination and would like to become Catholic. Sacraments typically occur at the Easter Vigil each year.

    St. Kate’s Food Shelf

Good nutrition is necessary for productive learning, and we strive to help students maintain a healthy diet. To support students who may be facing food insecurity, the CSSJ has partners with faculty and staff from across the University to run a food shelf for the St. Kate’s community. The food shelf is open on the first and third Wednesday of every month from 12–4 p.m. and is located in the Carondelet Center on the CSJ campus across from the O'Shaughnessy. Any student is welcome to create a bag of groceries that services their needs. We offer fresh fruits and vegetables, breads, and an assortment of other foods that will provide a balanced diet. If you have any questions, please contact us or email foodshelf@stkate.edu.
