For 822 Katies, this weekend will be a celebration of all that they have achieved during their time at St. Catherine University. Commencement ceremonies for students from the College for Women, College for Adults and Graduate College are scheduled for May 19 and 20.
“Commencement is one of my favorite times of the year,” said President Roloff. “Getting to see the culmination of all of our graduates’ hard work is truly rewarding and inspiring.”
This year’s graduating class has many accomplishments to be proud of. In the College for Women, 31 students will graduate Summa Cum Laude, 21 students will graduate Magna Cum Laude and 41 will graduate Cum Laude. The College for Adults will see eight students graduate Summa Cum Laude, seven students graduate Magna Cum Laude and 10 students graduate Cum Laude.
The keynote student speaker for the College for Women will be Elizabeth Juárez Diaz. Juárez Diaz is a chemistry major. Elizabeth Preze will be representing the Graduate College and is receiving her doctorate in nursing practice. The College for Adults will feature Jennifer Segal, a nursing major who will earn her BSN, as the student speaker.
Each ceremony will also feature an alumna keynote speaker.
The College for Women’s keynote speaker will be Kelly Barnhill, a 1996 graduate of St. Kate’s. In 2017, she won the Newbery Medal for her book, The Girl Who Drank the Moon. She has also won the World Fantasy Award, the Parents Choice Gold Award, the Texas Library Association Bluebonnet, and a Charlotte Huck Honor for her writing.
Nancy JP Anderson ’01, MAT’17 will be the keynote speaker for the College for Adults. She is the sole owner of Midwest Sign and Screen Printing Supply Co. and a dynamic champion for women’s education, leadership and community involvement.
Tammy Loosbrock DPT, is the keynote speaker for the Graduate College. Loosbrock is the senior director of Sanford Luvurne and Sanford Rock Rapids Medical Centers. The Sanford medical centers are part of the largest non-profit health care system in the nation, operating in nine states and three countries.
