Faculty leaders recently honored President Andrea Lee, IHM, for her service to St. Catherine University.
In a surprise presentation, representatives from the University Faculty Council (UFac) dedicated a baptismal font for use in Our Lady of Victory Chapel.
On behalf of UFac, Patricia Cahalan Connors, chair of the Department of Music and Theater, read the following dedication:
“When we enter this beautiful chapel for prayer, the first symbol we encounter is our baptismal font. It is, for us, the sweet refreshment of new life and stands as an unyielding reminder of our common call to holiness. Every time we approach the font for blessing, we recommit and align ourselves with Christ and his call to love and serve.
“Sister Andrea, just as we hold this font as the core symbol of our faith, we hold you as a core visionary of what it means to be St. Catherine University. From your earliest days with us you have been a well of creative energy that has inspired and ignited the hearts and minds of student, teacher, colleague and friend. Like this living water, you have blessed and nurtured so many in our vocation as educators, mentors and dreamers, and we are ever grateful.
“Today we offer this new vessel — this new baptismal font — in your name and in your honor. Every time we come to these waters to celebrate the life and light of Christ, we will remember and celebrate you.”
UFac representatives also presented Sister Andrea with a smaller version of the vessel to keep. A formal blessing of the baptismal font will take place at the Baccalaureate Liturgy during Commencement weekend.
