The O'Shaughnessy announces a noteworthy 2016–17 season

Dessa, Ananya Dance Theatre, Caroline Smith and others to take the stage this year.

The O'Shaughnessy announces a noteworthy new season of music and dance events, with the 2016-17 Homecoming Season featuring artists with Minnesota roots and a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Women of Substance series.

Kicking off the season on Friday, September 9 is Dessa, famed rapper, singer and essayist, in her biggest hometown headliner yet. Ananya Dance Theatre, Caroline Smith, and other celebrated artists also make their appearances at The O'Shaughnessy as part of the year's vivid and memorable season line-up.

September 9 - Dessa*

The internationally-acclaimed rapper, singer, songwriter, poet and philosopher from Minneapolis makes her second appearance at the O'Shaughnessy.


September 16-17 - Ananya Dance Theatre in Horidraa: Golden Healing*

This acclaimed Minneapolis-based contemporary Indian dance company premieres their newest work on the theme of "Work Women Do."


October 7 - Caroline Smith

The nationally-known indie, neo-soul artist originally from Detroit Lakes is on stage at The O'Shaughnessy for the first time. Tickets go on sale August 5.


October 22 - Test Pilot: A Dance Opera*

A compelling piece about the birth of flight by Twin Cities choreographer Penelope Freeh and composer Jocelyn Hagen returns to The O'Shaughnessy stage after a successful 2014 premiere.


November 4-6 - James Sewell Ballet

One of Minnesota's favorite dance companies partners with McKnight International Choreographers Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar.


November 20-22 - TU Dance

The award-winning Saint Paul-based contemporary dance company unveils a new work and presents selections from their popular repertoire.


December 23 - Katie McMahon's Celtic Christmas

Originally from Dublin, Katie now calls Minneapolis home and presents an O'Shaughnessy holiday tradition for the entire family with special guests Kantorei choral ensemble.


February 14 - The Love Show with Kevin Kling and Friends

Back by popular demand, an all-new special Valentine's Day show with the storytelling laureate of Minnesota.


February 16 - Maria Schneider Orchestra in The Thompson Fields*

In her first O'Shaughnessy visit, five-time Grammy winner jazz artist Maria Schneider pays tribute to Windom, Minnesota, her hometown.


February 24-25 - Threads Dance Project in The Secret of Slave Songs

This contemporary dance company from Golden Valley offers an expressive retelling of slavery's abolition through spirituals and dance.


April 2 - Sharon Isbin & Isabel Leonard: Music from Spain*

An evening of musical magic with St. Louis Park native and Grammy-winning master guitarist Sharon Isbin and Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard.
