The English Department Colloquium Series 2016-17 presents "Experiments in Joy: Art/Action Post-11/9," a talk by Gabrielle Civil. The aim of her work is to open up space.

Gabrielle Civil is a black feminist performance artist, originally from Detroit, Michigan. She has premiered over 40 original solo and collaborative performance works around the world. She earned tenure as Associate Professor of Performance at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio after having also earned tenure at St. Catherine University in St. Paul. She is currently an independent artist and agitator developing Black Bulb think bank for critical, creative and community experiments. Her memoir in performance art, "Swallow the Fish," will appear in the #RECURRENT series of CCM Press in February 2017.
