Contempo Physical Dance joins forces with guest choreographer Nildinha Fonsêca, master teacher and dancer from Balé Folclórico da Bahia, for two powerful evenings of contemporary Afro-Brazilian dance.
Contempo is recognized for dynamic Afro-Brazilian dance fused with a lush contemporary aesthetic. Fonsêca is a black movement activist, Afro-Brazilian feminist and artist from Bahia, Brazil - highly recognized as a female leader in a field dominated by male choreographers.
Known as Daughter of Oba, Orixá that is the Queen of the Warriors, Fonsêca's choreography is clearly immersed in her Afro-Brazilian lineage, and she creates work of cultural and physical intensity. Her world premiere, created for Contempo’s fiercely athletic dancers, will excite audiences with its innate theatricality.
St. Kate’s students, faculty and staff can purchase tickets for just $5. ID Required.
