Living a Feminist Life: Where We Find Feminism Matters; From Whom We Find Feminism Matters

The Center for Women and Center for Mission are pleased to co-sponsor discussions of Sara Ahmed's Living a Feminist Life this spring semester. Ahmed's 2017 book offers a powerful foundation as we face the complexities of our time, focusing in particular on gender, race, and intersectional identities.

Please contact the Center for Women for an excerpt of Ahmed's book that we hope you are able to read before attending the bag lunch. (Reading the excerpt in advance is encouraged but not required!) The discussion will be co-facilitated by Sharon Doherty, Center for Women Director, and Hui Wilcox, Mission Chair in Women’s Education, with contributions from St. Kate’s community members.

In addition to the Feb. 9 bag lunch, we are organizing discussions with particular communities, locally and globally. The St. Kate's faculty and staff of color affinity group, a student activist group in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and a St. Kate's Women's Studies faculty group will read and discuss the book. If you have an idea for another group, feel free to contact Our hope is that the range of discussions will bear out Ahmed's observation: "Where we find feminism matters; from whom we find feminism matters."(5)

Co-sponsored by the Center for Women and Center for Mission.

Throughout the academic year, the Abigail Quigley McCarthy Center for Women hosts the Women’s Studies (WOST) and Critical Studies of Race & Ethnicity (CRST) monthly bag lunch discussion series. The series brings together faculty, students, staff, and community members to discuss current research and creative endeavors.
Bring your lunch and your friends! Refreshments will be provided. All bag lunch discussions are held from 12-1:30 p.m., in the Center for Women, Coeur de Catherine 230, St. Paul campus. For more information, please contact the Center for Women at (651) 690-6783 or
