Julie Belle was a beloved colleague who contributed greatly to St.Kate's during her 33 years here. She was passionate about teaching and taught all of us who came in contact with her, whether it was a stranger, a colleague, a student, a child and always, members of her large close and extended family. She was a beacon of light and laughter.
She worked at St. Kate’s from 1975–2008. She was an associate professor of speech communication from 1975–2005 and was chair of the speech and theatre department from 1975–1981. From 1981–1985, she was director of continuing education and during this time, co-founded the Weekend College.
Julie Belle helped found and develop the majority of the curriculum for the Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership (MAOL) program, the first such program in the country, and was an associate professor in MAOL from 1985–2005. The first course in her curriculum was “Learning Effective Followership." She was an interim Dean of Arts and Sciences and a special assistant to President Andrea Lee from 2006–2008.
