Is a Fashion Career in Your Future?

This five-day summer workshop gives high school students a glimpse into the world of fashion from design principles to merchandising techniques at St. Catherine University's St. Paul campus.

Create Portfolio Materials

Turn your creativity into a fashion statement that expresses your unique style in a sustainable, inclusive way. Eligible participants include high school students in grades 10-12 who identify as girls, nonbinary, or genderqueer.

Participants will discover different career tracks in the fashion industry and leave with portfolio essentials, including one upcycled garment. You’ll also learn how to:

  • Sketch fashion figures
  • Sew to upcycle a design
  • Devise merchandising strategies
  • Create collage drawings
  • Make a trend board
  • Style a model & assemble a photoshoot

Make Connections

Network with industry leaders from our sponsor, Target Corporation, as well as St. Kate’s faculty, fashion majors, and alumnae. These key resources offer students valuable guidance about fashion design and merchandising as a future career path.

Design a Better World at St. Kate’s

Taking advantage of this unique opportunity will reflect a preview like no other of life on campus. The Fashion Summer Workshop mirrors the values of St. Kate’s Fashion Design and Merchandising programs, such as incorporating social responsibility and ecological integrity into every design.

Students will learn inclusive design and representation techniques that allow women of color greater access to the fashion industry.

And, as growing climate change demands sustainable practices, curriculums also push for strategies that can help reduce carbon footprint.
