Assistant Professor, Biology Department
Rahul Roy is a plant molecular biologist with a research program focusing on the mechanisms of nectar production in flowering plants and plant root movement. Current projects focus on the analysis of colorful nectar, roles of hormones and membrane transporters in nectar production and the wavy movement of plant roots in response to touch and gravity. He uses a combination of genetic, biochemical, cellular and molecular techniques to dissect pathways that are involved in the above mentioned phenomena. Rahul has previously worked on projects funded by NASA, NSF and the USDA. Students in the Roy lab will learn to think critically, ask foundational scientific questions, formulate hypothesis, design experiments, analyze data and disseminate results.
