St. Catherine University Community Commitment

As members of the St. Catherine University community, we recognize that we have a responsibility to show care, compassion, and grace toward one another. As we begin the 2020-2021 academic year in the midst of a global pandemic, an economic crisis, racial unrest, and an historical presidential election, it is more important than ever that we remember to love our dear neighbor without distinction as our founders — the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet — called us to do.

As Katies, we commit to:

Safeguard Health

We will follow established guidelines for health and safety to protect ourselves and the community by wearing face coverings, maintaining social distance, washing our hands, and following guidance for testing, isolation, and quarantine. We will take time for self-care, understanding that our physical, emotional, and mental health are connected, and we will encourage others to do the same. We will also be attentive to changing circumstances and policies, adjusting practices and behaviors as necessary.

Strive for Inclusive Excellence

We will consciously promote and work for acceptance by demonstrating respect, listening to and learning from other people’s experiences, embracing differences among identities, using inclusive language, and being open to perspectives. We will be anti-racist and work for a more equitable society.

Engage in Civil Discourse

We will be respectful and open-minded in conversations that address the differences among us as we work for just solutions. We will seek common ground through truth and understanding, be considerate of alternate views, and recognize that both what we say and how we say it matters.
