CARES Act Funding (HEERF I)
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act is a $2 trillion federal economic relief package that was signed into law March 27, 2020 providing a variety of financial relief to businesses and individuals. The CARES Act established and funded a $14 billion Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to provide student emergency grants and meet institution needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
St. Catherine University received $2.3 million under the CARES Act designated for student grants, and we distributed the funds to eligible students according to CARES Act requirements.
St. Catherine University received an additional $2.3 million under the CARES Act designated for institutional support which was used to provide prorated room and board refunds to students in Spring 2020 when campus was closed due to COVID-19. As a Minority Serving Institution (MSI), St. Kate’s received an additional $10,722 in institutional support, used to purchase sanitation equipment and supplies.
CRRSAA Funding (HEERF II)
The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) was signed into law on December 27, 2020 and provided $21 billion in aid to institutions of higher education to support students and institutions. St. Catherine University received $1.3 million from the CRRSAA to provide emergency grants to students, and almost $3.4 million designated for institutional support. The University received an additional $18,122 in institutional support as an MSI.
ARP Act Funding (HEERF III)
The American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act signed into law on March 11, 2021 provides approximately $40 billion in support to institutions of higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic. St. Catherine University was awarded $4.2 million for student grants and $3.9 million for institutional support, with an additional $28,861 in MSI support. The University is developing a plan during Summer 2021 to distribute funds according to requirements of the ARP Act.
