Seize the opportunity to study music within a rich liberal arts environment that develops your creativity and leadership skills! St. Kate’s small class size allows you more direct attention than you'd receive at larger colleges or universities.
The class Women and Music examines the role of women in popular and classical music and the cultural values that influence women’s participation in musical traditions locally and globally. Learn about the music created in countries such as Trinidad, India, and South Africa—and hip hop and American Indian music in the United States—in the World Music course. Or, fulfill a fine arts requirement with Music in the Twin Cities, an experiential course that will expose you to fieldwork and concerts in a range of musical styles around the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro.
Have a passion for performing? Check out The Women's Choir or the St. Catherine Choral Society, a large mixed chorus combining students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Our faculty are respected scholars, gifted performers and caring mentors. Their expertise includes conducting, music theory, musicology and ethnomusicology, and performance on piano, voice and various other instruments.
