Thanks to St. Kate’s, I’ve gained great connections in healthcare.

Why St. Kate's?

Michelle knew going into the college decision process that she wanted to attend a university with a smaller population as well as stay in the Twin Cities. “I attended the Minnesota Private College Week tour, and when I came to St. Kate’s I fell in love! All the professors seemed to care about their students and the community was very welcoming.”

Deciding on an Area of Study

Michelle started off in occupational therapy, but found that it wasn’t the best fit for her. She decided to research other degrees and programs offered in the healthcare field. “I ran across respiratory therapy and spoke to the program director at St. Kate’s. In respiratory care, we specialize — we’re covering one topic and go in-depth with it. That’s why I enjoy it.”

Building Experience

Michelle is very involved in the Respiratory Club at St. Kate’s and will serve as its president this next school year. She also has worked as a tutor through her department. “With the clinical experience St. Kate’s offers, I’ve been able to gain great connections in the healthcare fields.”

Today

Michelle recently accepted an internship at St. Cloud Hospital. “Eventually, I want to get my master’s degree in healthcare management — and work in the respiratory management.”

Advice for Students

“Use your resources. You need a support group. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Your friends and family, as well as professors, are here to help you. So, take advantage of that!"
