Healthcare Sales

Deciding on an Area of Study

Lauren was drawn to St. Kate’s because of its four-year degree in sales with an emphasis on healthcare. “There are no other programs in the country close to this one.”

She combined two dreams by pursuing healthcare sales. As a child, she hoped to become a medical professional; as an adult, to work in sales. “I wanted the opportunity to work with surgeons in the operating room and know that my expertise of a specific product can permanently impact a person’s life.”

Building Experience

Lauren's favorite class, which surprised her, was Healthcare Economics. "I really learned the most in this class, including how the industry is affected financially and economically in the United States and other countries.”

She had the opportunity to compete in the regional Great North Sales Competition in Eau Claire and the National Collegiate Sales Competition in Atlanta to enhance her sales education and professionalism. “I’m a hands-on learner, so these opportunities helped me to apply classroom theory to real-world circumstances.”

She built up even more experience during the summer of 2009. "I interned as an inside sales representative for 3M. The experience helped me become an effective salesperson when the primary means of communication is the telephone. This is not only a basic skill that I’ve honed but also a great way to get to know a company, learn how to take care of customer accounts and get prepared for a future role in outside sales.”

Outside of classes, Lauren was involved in many campus activities, including being co-president of Pi-Sigma Epsilon and St. Kate’s Lacrosse team captain. “All of my activities helped me to grow leadership skills so I can take charge and compete in many different situations in school and the business world.”
