Associate auditor at KPMG
Betty had just started a bachelor’s program in the Bronx when she and her husband decided to move to the Twin Cities. Wanting to continue her education, she visited at least five universities in Minnesota…
… and St. Kate’s evening/weekend/online program won her over.
“Not a lot of colleges offer summer courses in the evenings. I could also take classes on campus one week and then go online the next. This flexible schedule allowed me — a wife and mother with a full-time job — to still spend quality time with my family.”
“I’ve always had jobs. Now I have a career, and I couldn’t have done it without my professors. They were patient and willing to work with me, and made sure I didn’t fall behind when I was pregnant and when I gave birth during mid-terms. They encouraged me to go to a job fair in downtown Minneapolis and give my résumé to the big four auditors — KPMG, Deloitte, Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers.”
Not long after sharing her résumé with potential employers, Betty landed an interview. “Next thing I know, KPMG offered me a position. I wasn’t even finished at St. Kate’s!”
“I never had jobs in accounting or finance, but St. Kate’s put me on the right path.”
“If I can do it, you can too. It was a long road to get my accounting degree — and I still have the diploma displayed on my living room wall at home!”
