St. Kate’s is a place with countless opportunities.

hometown

Shakopee, Minnesota

why St. Kate's?

The campus beauty and serenity drew her in. “From the flowers blooming by the sidewalk to the smiling faces I passed by, the St. Kate’s community radiated with warmth and kindness. I felt like I too could blossom like those flowers and grow as a strong, empowered woman here!

What also caught her attention was the core message of St. Kate’s founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph, of loving thy neighbor without distinction. “That message of spreading love to everyone resonated with me, and I found it inspiring.”

deciding on a major

“I believe I have the responsibility to use my gifts and talents to serve others. My belief did not become a prominent factor in choosing my future career until I researched Mother Teresa for a seventh grade project. She had limitless compassion and unconditional love for the poorest of the poor. I wanted to become like her — someone who can make a beautiful difference in the lives of others.”

building experience

Away from the classroom, Baomi is an admission ambassador, research assistant for St. Kate's Physician Assistant Program, secretary for the Southeast Asian Student Association, peer mentor with the Office of Multicultural and International Programs (MIPS), and a peer tutor for the chemistry department.

“I love working in Admissions as a student ambassador! By giving tours and sharing my personal experiences with prospective students, I’ve been able to step out of my comfort zone of shyness and sharpen my communication skills. As a MIPS mentor, I’ve used goal-setting skills to support first-year students of color and ensure my mentees are reaching their desired goals and outcomes.”

advice to students
