Grants

You are automatically considered for the following grant awards when your financial aid package is prepared by one of our counselors.

Note: You must submit the the FAFSA and the St. Kate’s Financial Aid Application. For priority consideration, apply by April 15.

Federal Pell Grant $606 - $5,920 per year based on 2017–18 funding Need as established on the FAFSA.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) Up to $2,000 per year Need as established on the FAFSA.
Federal TEACH Grant Up to $4,000 per year Must declare an education major, and work as a full-time teacher after graduation. See your counselor for additional details.
St. Kate's Parent Partnership Grant Varies; amount covers origination and default fees on amount of PLUS loan up to cost of attendance Available only to those utilizing the Federal Parent PLUS loan.

Loans

A variety of loan programs are available to students and parents. Most student loans are offered at low-interest rates with repayment deferred until after graduation. You will receive detailed information about each loan program and any required paperwork with your financial aid award letter.

Loan Eligibility Annual Amounts Terms
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan Based on need For all undergraduate students: first-year $3,500; sophomores $4,500; juniors and seniors, $5,500. Interest does not accrue while borrower is in school. Repayment begins six months after graduation. Fixed interest rate. Several repayment plan options are available.
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan For students who are ineligible for Subsidized Federal Direct Loan, or independent students who wish to supplement a Subsidized Federal Direct Loan. For dependent students: first-year $5,500 ($3,500 maximum Subsidized); sophomores $6,500 ($4,500 maximum Subsidized); juniors and seniors, $7,500 ($5,500 maximum Subsidized). For independent students: first-year, $9,500 ($3,500 maximum Subsidized); sophomores, $10,500 ($4,500 maximum Subsidized); juniors and seniors, $12,500 ($5,500 maximum Subsidized). Interest accrues while borrower is in school. Repayment of principal begins six months after graduation. Fixed interest rate. Several repayment plan options are available.
Federal Perkins Loan Based on need Average $1,000–$2,000 per year Repayment begins nine months after graduation at 5% interest. Loan must be repaid within 10 years. Students will be asked to sign a promissory note at the beginning of the school year.
Federal Nursing Loan Based on need Average $1,000–$2,000 per year Must be accepted to the nursing major; and sign a promissory note at the beginning of the year. Repayment begins nine months after graduation at 5% interest. Loan must be repaid within 10 years.
Federal PLUS Loan Credit-worthy parent financing a child’s education. Up to cost of attendance minus other aid Payment begins 60 days after funds are received.
Alternative Education Loans Subject to individual lender terms and conditions. Up to cost of attendance minus other aid Must apply independently with lender. Approval subject to credit check.

Work Study and Student Employment

If you are a first-year student who is awarded work study as part of your financial aid award package, you are eligible for the First-Year Priority Placement Program. This program provides an early job application process that will place you in a position on campus before you arrive. Email us for more information.
