Have you discovered your superpower? If not, what would your superpower be? I've been told by my parents that I tend to see things that no one else can see or notice. I'm always the first to notice things.

Favorite place to hang out on campus? Or the best kept secret about St. Kate's?  I love the 3rd floor lounge and Dew Drop Pond.

Why do you love Orientation? What is your favorite memory from your Orientation? I felt more welcomed and comfortable at St. Kate's after going through my own Orientation and I want to make the new students feel like that too. My favorite memory is when we had dinner with the Sisters of St. Joseph and I ended up winning a St. Kate's blanket.

What advice would you give to incoming students? Is there anything you wish you would have known about? Don't be afraid to try new things and get outside your comfort zone. When I first started school, I thought I would have all these new friends right away, but honestly, it can take time to be friends with different people and that's ok. I didn't become close to people until months into the year. I guarantee that by the end of the year, you will find friends who mean the world to you.

Mai P Xiong

Do you work anywhere on or off campus? Yes

What is your favorite St. Kate’s tradition? Opening Ceremony

Favorite place to hang out on campus? Or the best kept secret about St. Kate's? The Pulse; the library, 3rd floor where all the comfy couches are!

Why do you love Orientation? What is your favorite memory from your Orientation? I love Orientation because it helped me see how the next few years attending St. Kate will be like and how I can adjust accordingly. It helped gave me some insight on registration and how things worked. I also got to meet new people so that I at least know one or two people on campus, especially since I'm a transfer and don't know anyone. I don't specifically have a favorite memory because I loved the whole experience of the Orientation! The school held a sleepover for transfer students which was awesome! We arrived, checked in, got a t-shirt, our own room, and did fun activities which gave us a chance to meet everyone. The next day, we got down to business of registering for classes and touring the school! If I could do it all over again, I would! I do hope St. Kate continues to do something like this to help incoming students feel comfortable and at home.

What advice would you give to incoming students? Is there anything you wish you would have known about? When you're feeling lost — literally, like can't find your way, Info Center! TRW (The Reflective Woman), Phys Ed, and theology classes are required to take, so I recommend taking those first and get them out of the way. If you're going into nursing or respiratory or into the healthcare industry, Human Anatomy & Physiology I is only available in the fall semester, meaning it will NOT be available in the spring semester. Human Anatomy II will be available in the spring but NOT in the fall so if you need both classes, be sure to know when to register for them and hurry because classes get full quick! The registrar portal thing will not let you register for those classes unless you register for a lab as well. Both the class and lab have to be compatible.

Name a character (cartoon or real) that you can relate to and why? Mulan! Selfless, tough even when she thinks she's not, perseverance, friendly, accepting.

Have you discovered your superpower? If not, what would your superpower be? My superpower is being positive. I love staying positive even when I am going through a hard time because that will make me feel better. Also, that will help to spread positive energy around and keep supporting my friends.

Favorite place to hang out on campus? Or the best kept secret about St. Kate's? My favorite place to hang out is MIPS! I'll be in MIPS when I have nothing to do because it is a great place to meet new people and start good discussions

Why do you love Orientation? What is your favorite memory from your Orientation? I love Orientation because it has a lot of energy and excitement to start the semester. My favorite memory is meeting new students and find some similarities. It is a great day to meet friends.

What advice would you give to incoming students? Is there anything you wish you would have known about? Try to enjoy your college experience, make the best out of it because this will be the best time in your life. I spent my first year just studying and not giving myself a break and enjoy college, that was the worst thing I ever did. Yes, we are here to study and get a degree, but we have to treat ourselves. Studying without reaping rewards will build on the stress a student is having, and that will leave a great chance for collapsing. Therefore, joining different clubs and organizations helps me to manage my time, and I am actually getting better grades now.
