Emily Nowak

Director of Nurse Educator Concentration and Associate Professor of Nursing

Dr. Emily W. Nowak, director of the nurse educator concentration and associate professor of nursing, has been with St. Catherine University since fall 2009 after she completed her PhD at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in August of 2009. An undergraduate alum of the baccalaureate nursing program, Dr. Nowak fully embraces the St. Catherine mission and values. Her work at St. Catherine most recently focuses on developing and implementing nursing curriculum to reflect the rapidly changing landscapes of healthcare and education for nurses who are interested in becoming nurse educators (NEs). Dr. Nowak is passionate about nurturing NEs to learn the art of integrating new and dynamic approaches to undergraduate nursing education while holding close St. Catherine's traditions of clinical and educational excellence, leadership, social justice, and community-based learning. Since joining St. Catherine’s faculty in 2009, she has taught courses in community and obstetric nursing, inclusivity, foundational teaching strategies, leadership, curricular design and evaluation, and quality and safety in advanced practice nursing. She also has an interest in health and wellness through the use of integrative modalities in the acute care setting, spurred by her work at Woodwinds Health Campus (WHC), where she continues to practice as a registered nurse in the maternity and special care units. In collaboration with the Integrative Services team at WHC, Dr. Nowak’s research has most recently examined how the intersection between eastern and western medicine benefits patients, providers and health systems alike.
