Carol Patrie

Research Advisor

Dr. Carol Patrie was Professor and Director of the Master of Arts in Interpreting at Gallaudet, where received the Outstanding Graduate Faculty award. She is the author of The Effective Interpreting Series, Fingerspelled Word Recognition through Rapid Serial Visual Presentation, and the Settings Series. Her current research interests include fingerspelled word recognition, expertise, mentoring, and teaching.

She is a past president of the Conference of Interpreter Trainers and is a recipient of the Mary Stotler Award. Carol helped develop a mentorship program for the Canadian province of New Brunswick and also serves as an adjunct faculty in the University of North Florida’s MA in Interpreting Pedagogy and travels nationally and internationally as an educational consultant.

She is currently writing the tenth and final volume in The Effective Interpreting Series, Simultaneous Interpreting from ASL. When she is not traveling, teaching or writing, Carol enjoys working in her extensive gardens and in her glass studio.
