They promote reading in a variety of formats and guide students to become effective users of ideas and information.

Employers actively recruit St. Catherine’s graduates. Our students are recognized leaders in the profession and hold positions such as library directors and national library association staff members.

how will I study?

St. Catherine’s 33-credit* School Library Media Specialist license program can be completed in two years. Courses meet on our St. Paul campus on an evening/weekend schedule, and combine online and face-to-face instruction in a hybrid learning format. Student teaching requirements are completed during the weekdays.

You’ll learn the principles of librarianship in general, and service to children and young adults in particular. Developmental psychology of the child, pre-adolescent and adolescent is woven into the literature courses. The philosophy of education for elementary, middle and secondary school levels is an integral part of our curriculum.

*Students who do not hold a current MN State teaching license will complete additional course and student teaching requirements.
