what will I study?

A major in studio art at St. Kate's begins with introductory art courses to give you a foundation before specializing in one or more areas, including painting, photography, graphic design and sculpture.

We also require art history courses so you gain a broader understanding of the contributions of art to society. Portfolio reviews occur during sophomore and junior years to develop your strengths and give you feedback from professors.

During your senior year, the "Senior Seminar" course teaches you how to continue and thrive as an artist, ending with a juried exhibition at the Catherine G. Murphy Gallery. Along the way you will have opportunities to learn from visiting artists, the Women’s Art Institute, and trips to local art museums.
