A St. Kate’s sonography major prepares you to take national certification exams in ultrasound physics, abdominal ultrasound and obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound or to become a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
A St. Kate’s sonography major blends liberal arts education, one-on-one hands-on labs and clinical training to prepare you for a satisfying, rewarding and successful career.
In classes combining lectures and labs, you will learn to care for patients with a wide range of medical issues using advanced ultrasound imaging equipment to evaluate the human body, examine organ systems and vascular structures, and to detect pathological changes.
You will also complete 1,200 hours of clinical experience. Practicums are scheduled at several healthcare facilities across the Twin Cities. St. Kate’s faculty, who are licensed ultrasound technicians or sonographers, will also share their personal insight into the profession.
