Exercise Science and Nutrition

Interested in the science of human movement? Are fitness and wellness important to you? A St. Kate’s exercise science and nutrition major is a unique major combining the disciplines of exercise and sport science and nutrition.

what can I do with a degree in Exercise Science and Nutrition?

With an exercise science and nutrition degree from St. Kate's, you'll be prepared for careers in fitness and wellness in a variety of settings, including:

  • Sports medicine practices
  • Injury management/sports management clinics
  • Strength and conditioning/health promotion centers
  • Physical therapy/rehabilitation organizations
  • Athletic training/personal training in a private practice

The exercise science and nutrition bachelor's degree is also excellent preparation for graduate school in programs such as exercise physiology or sports medicine and for health science careers in sports medicine, dietetics and injury management. You also have the option to pursue additional courses to become a licensed nutrition counselor.

what will I study?

A St. Kate’s exercise science and nutrition major incorporates a variety of courses in exercise and sport science and family, consumer and nutritional science.

  • Classes such as "Kinesiology and Biomechanics," you will study anatomical foundations of the human body and how it moves as well the mechanical principles in analyzing human motion.
  • "Exercise Physiology" will introduce you to the theory and analysis of how the body changes and adapts during exercise and sports performance.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty on research projects in The Women’s Health Integrative Research (WHIR) Center, a multidisciplinary, state-of-the-art research and teaching facility at St. Kate’s. You will also have the opportunity to work as a personal trainer for faculty in "Exercise Testing and Prescription" so you leave St. Kate’s with experience in your field.
