what will I study?

The St. Kate's electronic media studies degree is offered jointly with the University of St. Thomas, and combines theoretical knowledge and practical skills in a range of contemporary media forms, including television, radio, blogs, Internet videos and instant messaging.

  • In classes such as "Leadership and the Art of Persuasion," you will discuss issues such as ethics, leadership styles and personal strengths and develop your own personal leadership plan.
  • You will examine the role of public discourse and how citizens participate in and change society in "Rhetoric, Civic Participation and Social Justice."
  • In "Gender and Rhetoric," you will focus on communicating identity in interpersonal relationships, the impact of mass media on gender performances, key legislative debates and social movement strategies.

Faculty members present ethical principles and moral problems in class discussion and reading assignments and encourage you to examine them, form your own opinions and communicate them effectively.
