Website Intelligence Page
- Program Source Code with Variables and Conditionals
I modified the JavaScript code so that different responses would occur if the names "Jordyn," "Catherine," or any other name were entered into the textbox by the user. The interactive popup window is an important element in my welcome page, because it allows the user to engage in an electronic Egyptian Arabic greeting. I translated the response portion of the JavaScript Code into French for my friend Catherine because she is from Montréal, Québec. I created a different output to occur when I visit my website in order to brand the website as my own creation.
- Photograph Rollover
I utilized a rollover to transition between two photographs in order to add an interactive element to my welcome page. I used a picture of the pyramids as my primary photograph, because people automatically associate Egypt with the pyramids. The second picture in the rollover sequence is a photograph of me underneath an archway adorned with hieroglyphics. I selected this image, because it creates the sense that I am "popping out" at the people who visit my website.
- Photograph Rollover
There is a photograph rollover on the image of Baklava. The rollover transitions between a close-up photograph of Baklava and a portrait of me wearing a Pashmina scarf from Egypt and holding a plate of fresh baklava. The second image in the rollover creates a sense of cohesion within the webpage because it illustrates my addiction to scarf shopping and my love of baklava.
- Photograph Rollover with Hyperlink
I created a rollover that transitions between an Islamic style archway and an image of Muslim prayer rugs in order to create a "sneak preview" of what is found inside of a typical mosque. My goal in doing this was to persuade the viewer to click on the link to learn more about the Saltan Hassan Mosque. The photograph rollover incorporates an anchor between the Islamic Quarter webpage and the Saltan Hassan Mosque. I decided to have the Saltan Hassan Mosque webpage open in a separate window, because I wanted to emphasize the fact that the Saltan Hassan Mosque is an integral part of the Islamic Quarter, rather than a separate entity.
- Slideshow with Arrays
I decided to place a slideshow in this section of my website, because I wanted to imitate the experience one has when rapidly turning the pages in a photo album. My goal was to allow the viewer to gain a sense of the mosque through a series of concise snapshots. I juxtaposed the photographs of the interior of the Saltan Hassan Mosque with images from the Al-Azhar Park in order to contextualize the Mosque within Islamic Cairo.
- Mini Quiz with Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) and Alert Output
I incorporated a quiz about the pyramids so that the user can become more engaged with my website. The quiz poses three questions with information that I obtained from lectures provided by my local tour guide in Egypt. I counterbalanced the ridiculous question "Were the pyramids created by aliens?" with intelligent output in the JavaScript popup window in order to emphasize the sheer genius of the ancient Egyptians.
