The book "The Code Book" is one that discusses the different ways that people would send messages so that their captures or others could not figure out what they were sending. There are many different ways that you can send messages and the book gives some examples. This book would be a great one for students to read to learn about how messages were sent during WWII and see how different and similar they are from sending messages today through email or regular mail. As a future teacher I have come up with some activites and ideas as to how you could teach this topic in the classroom. Ideas for teaching The book begins by telling the story of Mary Queen of Scots and how she had encrypted messages to some plotters to have Queen Elizabeth murdered. Fortunatly for Queen Elizabeth the spymaster had intercepted the messages and was able to deciphered them. The book then goes into the different ways that messages were sent during this time period and those before. Different ways to send messages This book could be taught from many different angles but I believe that this part of the book could be taught and interesting to students who are upper elementay school and middle school.
