Pre-Clinical fieldwork should be completed along with the accompanying paperwork before the start of their LIS 7283/6 course for it to apply towards student teaching hours. You may apply to student teach before you complete these hours.

Please consult the following forms:

Student Teaching

All students in the SLMS Program must complete student teaching (LIS 7283 or LIS 7286: Clinical Experience I and Supervised Student Teaching). LIS 7283 is designated for students who hold a current MN Teaching License (students are required to do 200 hours of student teaching), and LIS 7286 is for students who do not (students are required to do 400 hours of student teaching). Student teaching should be your very last School Library Media Course whose prerequisites include: LIS 7010, 7030, 7040, 7160, 7210, 7220, 7240, 7250, and 7730. A Student Teaching Application is also required. Students should complete all required PRAXIS tests before the start of student teaching.

For LIS 7283/6 in Winter, please turn in your Student teaching application by the preceding Septermber 15th.
For LIS 7283/6 in Fall, please turn in your Student teaching application by the preceding February 12th.

After an application has been turned in and if the student has all of the prerequisite courses, students will sign up for a pre-student teaching interview where they will present an electronic portfolio. More information will be provided to students after the deadline.

To see where you are in the program, students can fill out the following SLMS Student Advisee Plan Guides found under SLMS, then under Advising.
