Student Governance Organization (SGO)

All students in the Masters of Library and Information Science program are members of the MLIS Student Governance Organization. SGO consists of MLIS Student Governance Steering Committee, Nominations and Election Committee, Finance Committee, Department Meeting Committe, Curriculum Sub-Committee, and Advisory Council Committee. "Art Documentation and War Crimes: Librarianship in the Aftermath of War" Saturday, October 24, 2009 2:00 p.m., Jeanne D'Arc Auditorium (Whitby Hall)

The Student Governance Organization of the MLIS Department at St. Catherine University will sponsor a talk by Dr. Andras Riedlmayer, bibliographer in Islamic art and architecture at Harvard's Fine Arts Library, on Saturday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m. This program will take place in Jeanne D'Arc auditorium in Whitby Hall on St. Kate's St. Paul campus. Don't miss this fascinating presentation, "Art Documentation and War Crimes: Librarianship in the Aftermath of War," on the growing recognition of links between librarianship, the protection of cultural heritage, and human rights. Dr. Riedlmayer is an eminent authority in the preservation and restoration of cultural artifacts. He has helped lead international efforts to rebuild library collections and library services in the aftermath of war in the Balkans and in Iraq. Admission is free for this event. MLIS Student Governance Executive Committee:

Plan and organize the new student governance organization. Work with a faculty representative to decide how to shape student governance in the MLIS program.

Advisory Council Committee Members:
Heather Lewis

Join 25 working librarians, library directors, alumni, and faculty to advise the MLIS department about its future development. Meets 3 times a year September through May. Great opportunity to network.

Curriculum Sub-committee:
Laura Clark

Work on a task force with 2 faculty and representatives of the Twin Cities library community to draft a curriculum to be implemented in about 2 years.

Department Meeting Committee:
Leslie Hunter-Larson (Department Liaison), Michael Mitchell, and Laura Clark

Participate in the MLIS faculty/staff department meetings to determinegeneral policies and procedures relating to the MLIS program.
