How and When to Register

Students register using the online registration system. Students who are not registered for a semester must fill out a Leave of Absence form. If you do not register after a semester without the proper forms, you will be dropped from the program. Also if you are dropping your only course for the semester or summer, you will need to fill out a Leave of Absence form. It is the students' responsibilty to turn in these forms. See Student Accounts for the Tuition Refund Schedule. We are considered a Graduate Weekday program on the Saint Paul campus for both our evening and weekend courses.

Students should check course prerequisites and take care of any holds before registration. If a student is currently completing a prerequisite for a course offered in the next term, see Registration Tips at the bottom of this page. Holds can be checked by looking up your registration status under the My Education tab in Kateway.

On the Registrar's homepage, you can link to registration schedule. Scroll down to Registration table. For meeting dates, see the MLIS Winter schedule. Earned credits are based on courses you have completed and for which you have received a grade.

You may click here to go straight to Kateway. All students should review the instructions to the new Online Banner system by reviewing the KateWay Resources and Links on the Registrar's home page.

Steps to Registration

1. KateWay Resources and Links are available on the Registrar's home page. Students should review these pages before registering for classes.
2. Review the course schedule for a list of courses offered during the upcoming term, the meeting day/time, faculty assigned to the course, etc. Click on the course number to determine whether the course still has space available.
3. When registration begins for the upcoming term, access the online registration system through Kateway. Kateway will allow you to register through the new Online Banner system. Consult the Banner training, tutorials, videos, and FAQS for students found here for instructions.

• If you are currently completing a prerequisite for a course in the next term, you will need to contact the MLIS office at imdept-at-stkate.edu (replace -at- with @) to obtain a Prerequisite Override before registration.
• Holds may prevent you from registering and should be taken care of before registration. Holds can be checked by looking up your registration status under the My Education tab in Kateway.
• Make sure you choose the correct term for registration.
• Graduate Courses uses section numbers such as G01, G02, etc...
• Print the registrar's instruction pages to follow as you go along.
• For assistance with the registration process, call the Registrar's office at 651-690-6531. You can email the MLIS office at IMDept@stkate.edu. You may also call 651-690-6802 or 651-690-6431. If you prefer to register with assistance nearby, you may use the front desk computer in the Office of the Registrar, Room 229, Derham Hall.
