New MLIS Student Checklist

Print this form and fill it out as you go along.

Before the semester begins.

Apply for financial aid if you haven't yet.
Go to the MLIS homepage and bookmark it or add it to your favorites.
Fill out and return the immunization form you received with your acceptance letter. For questions about the form, contact Tammie Graczyk of the Student Compliance Office at (651) 690-7706.
Receive orientation information in the mail from Admissions and from the MLIS Program. This information includes details about the University's New Student Orientation Day as well as information about the MLIS Program's continuing orientation activities.
Complete the MLIS Program's Entering Student Survey and Technology Self Assessment (both online). Information about these are included with the orientation packet you received in the mail.
Get a parking permit at the Department of Public Safety.
Register for classes (LIS7010 and either LIS7030 or LIS7040).
Attend the University's New Student Orientation Day. Information about the date, time, and location can be found in the packet mailed to you.
Get your ID card at the Coeur de Catherine Information Desk. You may obtain your ID card during orientation session, or anytime after that session, as long as you have already registered for classes. Your card is an essential tool that you use to check out books from the library, access your account information at the Registrar's Office or Students Accounts, access the Butler Center Activities, and more.
Check your St. Catherine University email account. Your account is activated once you have registered for classes. Read the online instructions for help with using your email. The University requires that you check your email twice a week (see the online student guide).
Read through the MLIS Student Guide. You should have also received a hard copy at the New Student Orientation day.
Check your student account at Kateway for financial aid award information and a statement balance. Ensure that your account is current.
Check two weeks before classes start for course syllabi. If a syllabus you need has not been posted, please contact the faculty member who will be teaching the course. Faculty are responsible for posting their syllabi and are encouraged to do so at least two weeks in advance of the start date.
Purchase books at the University bookstore.

After the semester begins.

Fill out the SLMS/MLIS form (for students who wish to pursue SLM licensure) and turn it in to Debbie Yang, Assistant Office Manager. Forms can be dropped to the MLIS office, room 43. Review the School Library Media portion of the website.
Contact your advisor to set up a meeting.
Consider joining a student group. All students are automatically members of SGO (Student Government Organization).
