MLIS Advising

New students receive notice of which advisor they've been assigned to on orientation day. Students may switch advisors and will particularly want to do so if their career plans intersect with a certain advisor's specialty (see "Advisors and Pathways," below). Contact the MLIS office to request a change in advisor.

All students are strongly encouraged to meet with their advisors once a semester. Their contact information can be linked to on the top of the front page or under "People in the Program" in "Contacts" For other MLIS program options such as the Juris Doctor and MLIS degree, Archives Certification, School Library Media Program, and Certificate of Special Studies, click here. Available in Program Forms is a Course Planning Worksheet for students to map out their courses.

Advisors and Pathways

Each faculty member has expertise in a particular type of library or area of librarianship. We call these special areas of expertise "pathways." If you see a pathway that interests you, feel free to contact the faculty member for an informational interview.
