This is my first year at St. Kate's as an Assistant Professor. The previous three years, 1999-2002, I was at nearby Macalester College as a Visiting Professor, and before that I spent two years at the University of Minnesota where I developed many materials for multivariable calculus . After finishing the work on my PhD at the University of Minnesota six years ago, I spent a very enjoyable year (1996-1997) teaching at Beloit College. Before that I spent six years as a graduate student at U of M, and I defended my thesis entitled Non-linear Curve Flows in the plane in January of 1997. I am married, and my wife Becky Halvorson and I have two beautiful (and inquisitive) girls, a nine-year old named Leah, and a four-year old named Maya.
My area of reserach interest is Geometric Curvature flows. My thesis Non-Linear Curve Flows in the plane can be viewed by anyone with a pdf viewer. The postscript version is also available.
